Why this matters
For students: It makes the journey from enquiry to first lesson smoother and clearer.
For teachers: It reduces unnecessary messaging, helping you move from enquiry to confirmed lesson more quickly.
For everyone: It brings clarity on what to expect for the first lesson.
How to set it up
Go to your Price Settings.
Select your preferred duration and price (£0.00 and up) for your trial lesson.
Click Save — the price will appear on your public profile.
Once you’ve agreed the date, time, and location with the student, create the trial lesson in the system as usual.
💡 Tip: You can update your trial lesson settings at any time.
Do I need to offer a free trial?
No. We don’t endorse offering free trials. This feature was created because many teachers requested it, and we wanted to give you the flexibility.
Around 40% of teachers currently offer free trials.
Around 60% of teachers charge for them.
It’s completely up to you — choose what works best for your teaching practice.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What if I already have a trial lesson set up with a student?
You can continue as normal. This setting doesn't affect any existing bookings, it's simply a way to display information about trial lessons on your public profile.
Q: Can I change my trial lesson price later?
Yes, you can update the price or duration at any time in your settings.
Q: Do I have to stick to the price quoted on my public profile?
No. If you publicise the price for a 30 minute trial but, in conversation with the student you both agree a longer or shorter trial would be better, it's reasonable that the price may also change.
Similarly, if you are travelling to the student, you may elect to increase the price to incorporate your time and expense in making the journey. The key part is clear communication with the student to justify any variation in price.
Q: Does this affect my regular lesson prices?
No. This only applies to your trial lesson. All other lesson prices remain the same.
Q: How do I setup a trial lesson?
See our guide on setting up trial lessons here.
Q: Why didn’t my trial lesson show the discounted price? If the lesson isn’t explicitly set up as a trial, the system applies your regular single-lesson rate by default. Double-check that the correct Trial lesson or custom Offer method is used when setting up the lesson.
Q: What is the Offers feature, and how does it differ from trial lessons? The Offers feature allows you to customize lesson pricing and provide discounts for block bookings, whereas trial lessons apply primarily to individual first lessons.
