Teacher's guide to how discount codes work?

For teachers. Discount codes benefit both you and the student by encouraging them to purchase more lessons.

Updated over 8 months ago

Sometimes, students will receive a discount code they can use against the price of lessons. It could be as part of a campaign to encourage previous students to make a new purchase or perhaps as an apology if something goes wrong. Whatever the reason, students receiving a discount code is good for them and you.

Will this affect the amount I receive?

The discount is deducted from the total cost of a lesson/block of lessons on the payment page of their account. The amount you receive for these lessons does not change whether they paid the total price or a reduced rate. Any discount given to a student is absorbed by MusicTeachers and does not impact your teacher's payments negatively.

How a student uses a discount code or gift voucher

  • The student chooses the teacher they wish to purchase lessons with and agrees on the lessons details.

  • They proceed to the purchase screen by either confirming a lesson, if you have already input it into your calendar, or using the purchase lessons button to the right of your image on their dashboard or within your profile.

  • They either choose a single lesson or a block of lessons, then set the lesson duration required to proceed.

  • On the payment page, they will see the price of the lessons, the instalment options, the 'Pay by credit card' box and a 'Google Pay' box. Under this box is a drop-down arrow saying "Discount Code".

  • If they click the down arrow, they can see the box where their discount/gift card code can be input.

Once input, the final price is reduced by the amount of their code. Should the total cost be lower than their discount code/gift voucher, they can save the remaining sum for a future purchase.
