The SuperTeacher mark helps students identify teachers who consistently meet a set of performance criteria on MusicTeachers.co.uk.
Teachers who meet the SuperTeacher criteria receive a visible SuperTeacher tag on their profile and in search results. The criteria are reviewed regularly using platform data and are designed to recognise factors such as student satisfaction, reliability and long-term student commitment.
This article explains how the SuperTeacher criteria work and how each measure is calculated.
Quick to respond
The teacher responds to the first message from a new student within 12 hours on average, so that the time between the student’s decision to take lessons and the first session can be as short as possible. The measurements are taken from the last 3 months of activity.
Presentation video
The teacher has a presentation video introducing themselves as a teacher or performer on their profile so that students can get a good insight into who they are as people and what their teaching style is.
Highly recommended
The teacher has at least 3 reviews from current and/or former students (who must have booked at least one lesson via MusicTeachers.co.uk). The average star rating must be a minimum of 4 out of 5 stars. This can help new students feel more confident in their choices seeing other students' experiences with the teacher.
Committed students
This criterion measures how many students continue taking lessons with a teacher over time. We look at students who have taken a lesson with you during the past 6 months and calculate the percentage who have completed 5 or more lessons with you. To qualify, at least 50% of these students must reach 5 completed lessons.
New students are not included in the calculation until 3 months after their first lesson with you, unless they reach 5 completed lessons sooner. This gives new teaching relationships time to develop.
This measure is updated once per day and must be met to receive the SuperTeacher mark. You can see the students included in your calculation from your dashboard.
A SuperTeacher must meet 'Committed students' plus at least two more criteria.
Grace period protection
SuperTeacher calculations take place daily. This means teachers who meet the criteria do not have to wait for the badge to be applied.
However, daily calculation can also cause statistics to move downwards, particularly when a student drops out of the calculation. A grace period of 6 weeks is in place to protect SuperTeachers from these fluctuations.
If your calculation drops below the SuperTeacher mark, the badge will stay on your profile for 6 weeks. This gives you time to respond to new enquiries, build new committed teaching relationships, add a video, and gather more reviews from students.
How the SuperTeacher criteria were developed
When students choose a teacher, they consider many factors, including professionalism, experience and safeguarding. Through student feedback and platform data, we identified a number of additional factors that students consistently value when selecting a teacher.
The SuperTeacher criteria are based on these factors and are designed to recognise teachers who meet the required standards across all measures.
Summary
Teachers who meet the Committed students criterion, together with at least two other SuperTeacher criteria, receive the SuperTeacher mark on their public profile and in search results.
