Teacher's guide to membership levels

For teachers: An explanation about membership levels and how this affects your pricing and payout.

Updated over 8 months ago

The hours you teach through the platform all count towards your membership level. As your student list grows and you teach more lessons, so will the number of hours taught in your total.

Membership levels start at Basic and progress through Bronze, Silver, Gold to Platinum. The more hours you teach, the higher the level of your membership.

Once your total passes a marker, you’ll automatically be moved to the next level of membership with us. Blocks of lessons, Group lessons, Events, Trial Lessons and Offers all count towards your membership level.

FAQs

What happens when I upgrade my membership level?

Once upgraded, all student purchases made after your upgrade, will be processed at your new level. This means for most products, platform fees reduce. In this article, we've grouped products together so you can understand how it works at upgrade time.

How do membership level upgrades work with Lesson Offers, Trial lessons, and Groups and events?

The platform fee will reduce by 2% each time you upgrade. After you upgrade, all new lessons you create using these products will be processed at your new level's platform fee. Lessons created before your upgrade will not be affected, even if you haven't taught the lessons yet.

How do membership level upgrades work with Lesson blocks of 10, 20 & 40?

Your upgrade reduces platform fees on blocks of 10, 20 and 40, on average by about 1.5%. The default setting is that the student price reduces by this amount. If you would instead like to increase your teacher fee, we recommend using the price settings tool to increase your teacher fee by 1.5%

How do membership level upgrades work with single lessons, and blocks of 5?

Regardless of your membership level, single lessons and blocks of 5 have the same platform fee. Therefore to see the benefits of your new membership level, we recommend guiding students towards the purchase of larger products and all the benefits of instalment payments, and reduced platform fees.

Has the membership level system always worked this way?

No. In February 2025, some updates to the logic which govern the application of platform fees in the system meant that the membership level system needed to also update. We introduced membership levels in 2021 and we're taking this opportunity to review the system. If you have any thoughts or ideas about how we could improve the membership level system, please write to us using the chat system here, or via [email protected].

How do I see what Membership level I’m on?

Log in to your account and your membership is displayed on your dashboard and also in the Settings section of your profile. You can see your total number of hours taught, your current level and how many more hours you’ve got to go until you reach the next level.

Will group lessons count towards my membership level? Yes. Just as in solo lessons, every hour of group teaching counts towards your membership level. Note that we base the calculations on your teaching hours and not on student hours. For example, if you teach an ensemble class with 6 participants for 60 minutes, one hour will be added to your membership level.

Will 'Offer' lessons count towards my membership level? Yes. Lessons delivered as part of an Offer will count towards your membership level in just the same way as a solo lesson will.

When do the calculations start? Calculations started on the first of January 2021. Since then, every hour of teaching time is logged and counts towards your membership level.

What happens to lessons I’ve already booked in the system? Lessons already created in the system will not be affected by your new level - only lessons created after you upgrade will see the reduction in platform fee.

Will my students see what level I am?

No, your membership level is shown only to you. It is not part of the public part of the platform.

Will my membership level go down?

No. Membership levels are designed to only go up!

Will the total hours of lessons be reset at the end of the year?

No. The total number of lessons taught will be an all-time calculation and will not be reset at the end of the year.
